Welp, it's that time of the year again, for those of us who are blessed with luxurious facial hair to sacrifice our rugged good looks to get some laughs and raise funds for those in dire need. I'm back at it again with M4K Richmond and Richmond Friends Of The Homeless! Last year, we hit $850K in donations! As the need does not wane, nor do my efforts!
Let’s grow this thing!
ABOUT RICHMOND FRIENDS OF THE HOMELESS
Richmond Friends of the Homeless was formed in 1986 to strengthen and enrich the community life of the disadvantaged and homeless in Richmond, Virginia.
Our mission is served by providing a nutrtitious lunch seven days a week in Richmond's most impoverished neighborhoods: Blackwell/Bainbridge/Hillside and Jackson Ward/Gilpin Court/Mosby Court are encompassed. This includes a hearty bagged lunch on Saturdays and Sundays in south Richmond. Breakfast and a Book is available for the children we see each day. Our goal is the alleviation of hunger in our community, as well as providing numerous much needed services to those living in poverty. This includes blankets, clothing, warm winter items, personal hygiene kits, and food baskets. Counseling, referral services, and regularly scheduled 'health fairs" are offered. Special children's services include making available school supplies, book bags, funds for field trips, gym suits and graduation clothing as needed. We provide all of our services with the time and talents of a tremendous volunteer base which includes schools, churches and congregations of all denominations, civic groups, businesses and individuals who want to make a difference in their community.
ABOUT M4K RICHMOND
M4K Richmond improves the quality of life for local children through individual fundraising, partnering with local charities and businesses, and having a little bit of fun with facial hair.
M4K Richmond, Inc. is a volunteer-run organization that was founded in 2003 with the goal of raising money for local children’s charities while having fun growing mustaches. Inspired by the National Mustaches for Kids chapters in California and NYC, two Richmond-area philanthropic geniuses took a leap of faith and grew their first mustache. After being spiritually and piously enlightened by the magic of 1) having a mustache and 2) helping children’s charities; the pair began their annual campaign to relentlessly recruit Growers and brand the M4K Richmond organization. In the beginning there was a small group of less than 10 Growers with limited mustache growing potential. Membership has grown each year with over 200 Growers sporting sweet mustaches during this past growing session. In 2010 M4K Richmond was incorporated and received recognition as an official 501(c)3 non profit public charity by the IRS. Through the years, M4K Richmond has enlisted the efforts of thousands of brave Growers who collectively have raised over $2,300,000 for Richmond based children’s charities such as The Children's Hospital Foundation, Greater Richmond SCAN, The ASK Childhood Cancer Foundation, Feedmore, and more.
